Friday saw another unfortunate mass shooting at a high school. This time it was Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas. And again, the response from the conservative right has been to unanimously blame literally everything else instead of discussing common sense gun reform. Literally everything else. Take Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, who suggested that too many entrances to schools are to blame. Also that kids shouldn’t be in big crowds together, because it’s easier to get shot. Beyond the impracticality of his claims (Fewer entrances would pose a more substantial risk of trapping kids in the school), none of them address the problem of keeping something like this from happening from in the first place. On the other hand, things like Universal background checks and any measure that makes it just a LITTLE bit more difficult for children and people with mental problems to get their hands on such efficient tools for killing might. Just a thought.
