Ted Cruz has been launching a campaign to discredit Beto O’Rourke. For good reason. At most other times, Ted Cruz would likely breeze through a midterm election, but he’s been losing ground to O’Rourke. For whatever reason, be that the state of the country, O’Rourke’s charisma, Cruz’s lack of charisma, or perhaps a more conscientious electorate. One way or another, polls that just a few weeks ago showed a substantial lead for Cruz, now show the two neck and neck. Now, personally, I don’t have a lot of faith in polls, but I do enjoy a good reaction. And Cruz’s to O’Rourke’s traction has been notably funny. In an attempt to make O’Rourke look less wholesome and charismatic, Cruz’s directed people’s attention to the fact that O’Rourke was once in a Punk band. But instead of making people think less of him, people just thought it made him seem cooler. When Cruz tried to make O’Rourke seem like an immoral pottymouth by telling everyone that he swears on the campaign trail, people just seem to think that makes him seem more real and approachable. Basically, Cruz is making his opponent look better and more in touch than he is, which may only serve to widen that poll gap. And what would be more hilarious than Cruz being responsible for helping to push his opponent to victory.

Donald Trump, Jr. might be looking at a bit of trouble for his participation in a meeting in Trump Tower during the 2016 election. For those not in the know, Don Jr, potentially (probably) with the knowledge of his father, took a meeting with a Russian lawyer in the hopes of getting dirt on Hillary in the election. The more information that becomes public, especially as it relates to a statement by Jr, probably drafted by Sr, the less good it looks for Jr. And I guess Papa Trump might be getting worried as well. Whether that is genuine concern over the welfare of his son or concern for himself over the blowback is up to whoever is telling the story. But whichever the case, it’s certainly causing Trump and his legal team time and energy. And the flip flopping over Don Sr.’s level of knowledge of the incident before it happened is only causing more waves. All I can imagine is that Trump would rather Jr. be out of reach for the time being.

I don’t actually know that if Trump’s porn star affair gets validated that anything substantial will actually happen. I don’t expect it would honestly change anyone’s mind about the man one way or the other. I’m 100% sure it will ultimately lead to nothing….yet at the same time, I just want to see it run it’s course. I mean, it’s a fascinating story, and the fact that some poor lawyer had to get a home equity loan to pay off this porn star, ultimately to be stiffed by his boss is just amazing to me, and now there is this 60 Minutes interview that the White House is trying to kill, and by god, at this point, I just want to hear the story! And regardless of what happens if the story finally breaks, the fact that Trump can’t run away from this story fast enough is somewhat gratifying as well.
