Beating a Dead Hillary

Obsession with Hillary1

I seriously feel bad for Hillary.  Even if you weren’t a supporter of her campaign, the fact that she continues to be this punching bag for Trump and his followers to hit upon every time they need some kind of distraction is just unfortunate.  I’m sure it has to sting for a seasoned politician like her to have lost to Donald Trump, but for her to constantly be beat upon after the fact is something no other candidate after the fact has had to deal with, at least not to my knowledge.  Take this last week. Hillary mentioned in an appearance that every time something goes wrong, or there is nothing to talk about, Trump or Fox News will take a whack at the ol’ Hillary bag, and how in an ideal world, she’d just like that part to stop.  Which is a reasonable thing to say.  So what does Fox News do?  Well naturally they put her on blast for being full of herself and being awful, then go on to mention her name with some mean comment a full 60+ times this week.  It’s weird and underhanded, and really unfortunate.

Nothing Burger

Nothing Burger1

So a fun political buzzword we keep hearing lately is “Nothing Burger.”  I mean, It’s a term that’s been around for like 70 years, but in the age of “fake news” and non-stop information flooding every aspect of our existence, parsing the things that have real significance from the things that don’t is tangible problem. Take the infamous memo released this weekend.  While Trump claims it completely vindicates him, eagle eyed viewers would recognize that it’s mostly just an accusatory document attacking the quality of evidence used to secure a surveillance warrant.  In political terms, it can, and probably should be argued that it is the dictionary definition of a Nothing Burger.  While I don’t think the Republicans are the only people in government utilizing the concept, they are certainly turning it into an art.

Nobody in the White House Talks about Clinton

Nobody Talks about Clinton1

Kellyanne Conway told Chris Cuomo on CNN that nobody talks about Hillary Clinton in the White House. “We don’t care about her. Nobody here talks about her.”  That seems to be empirically untrue, as literally right after she gave the interview, good ol’ King Don sent out a tweet about her.  It seems like SOMEONE pretty significant in the White House cares about her and talks about her.

Debate Round 1

Round 1-3

Reading about the debate prep of the candidates is fascinating.  Where Hillary seems to be approaching things methodically, pouring over research, fine tuning her presentation, Donald appears to be doing things a bit more laid back.  Hanging out, eating junk food and testing out zingers.  It should be quite a show.

“We’re all mad here”

People often misinterpret Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland as a metaphor for drug use, when in reality, Charles Dodgson (under the pen name Lewis Carroll) was an Anglican deacon and mathematician, and Alice’s Adventure was his view on absurdity on a world that didn’t make sense to him.  And while the particular world he was referencing was Non-Euclidean mathematics (Imaginary numbers? Insanity!), moving through a world that makes no sense feels more and more relevant.
