“I am Not a Baby”

not a baby1

You know, it says an awful lot when someone has to let us know, not once, but twice in a single interview, that they are in fact, not a baby.  Trump had to let poor Leslie Stahl know that, after bowling over her questions, and practically shouting in her face during the 60 Minutes interview on Sunday.  He spent the whole interview acting indignant, ignoring inconvenient or unfavorable questions, and hammering on subjects that he wanted to talk about without letting Leslie move the whole process forward.  I’m sure Trump’s supporters will look at his petulance and childish behavior as a show of strength and him having his way with the fake news.  Personally, I see it has him being a big, dumb baby.  And I know, Trump says, very specifically that he isn’t, but I don’t feel inclined to take his word for it.

Trial and Error

baby court1

A One-Year-Old baby was tried in Immigration court.  A baby.  Not the family. In fact his father had already been sent back to Honduras.  So there was this baby, sitting there in immigration court, and he was, as might be expected, crying hysterically.  Because what the hell.  The world is topsy turvy and a child who can’t walk or speak can be tried in a court of law so long as they’re not a US citizen.  I mean, I just don’t know what to really say about it.  Our system has kind of crumbled to this point where tiny children, who have no business trying to represent themselves, much less the ABILITY or cognizance to do so, are sent into court and we all just hope for the best.  3000 kids are still separated from their family, many of them being sent into court without ANY kind of representation, without anyone present to know what’s ultimately in the best interest of the child.  The baby, only identified as Johan was sent back to his father in Honduras, which is something, though assuming the family came here in the first place to be granted asylum…maybe not so great?

Childish Behavior

So I’ve been reading articles about trade negotiations with China, and one of their big complaints is consistency.  They’re frustrated because Donald Trump doesn’t seem to know what he wants out of a trade deal, and keeps moving the goal post, regardless of how willing they seem to be in dealing.  And the more I think about that, the more I can put into context things like Trump declaring that illegal immigrants should be kicked out of the countries, no due process, despite that being unconstitutional to the extreme.  Trump is basically a toddler.  He has expectations that he’s going to be taken care of in every aspect of his life.  If he wants something, like a toddler, he doesn’t take into consideration what it takes to get it, or even if it’s permissible.  That doesn’t even cross his mind.  He just knows that he wants something, and that the people around him, like a toddler’s understanding of his parents, are there to make that happen.  But unlike actual parents, the people around Trump are ACTUALLY there to make his whims happen, which has meant skirting the law and the very foundations of what is allowed.
