John McCain: In Memorium

SUN Funeral1

John McCain passed away this last weekend, and I think It’s important to take a moment to stop and reflect on the man.  Most people are aware of his time as a POW during Vietnam.  To have walked away from that with your mental faculties in check, and to go on to lead the life he did, is truly amazing and worthy of everyone’s praise.  He went on to have a prodigious political career, standing as a Republican Senator in our nation’s Congress until the very end of his life.  I didn’t agree with an awful lot of his politics, but I believe, in my heart of hearts, that he was a man of integrity, and his political work reflected that.  And, especially in his last days, he wasn’t afraid to stand up to his own party in the effort to do what he felt was the right thing, and I respect him immensely.  He was one of the last politicians to have such bi-partisan respect, being able to reach across the aisle when it meant getting something done.  So rest in peace, Mr. McCain.  Your presence in political discourse will be missed.
