I’m always on the lookout for something to make me laugh. Because lets face facts: the world can let you down in that regard. The environment is on a crash course to creating an uninhabitable environment for the human race and most other living creatures. The Government is at war with itself, as is general civil discourse. Most of the world thinks our country has gone off the rails, and frankly, that’s getting harder and harder to dispute. My cell phone broke this weekend, and that was a bummer. But then I stumbled onto this website. It’s the GoFundMe page of George Papadopoulos and his legal fees.
If you don’t know, George Papadopoulos is a former member of the foreign policy advisory panel to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. On October 5, 2017, Papadopoulos plead guilty to making false statements to FBI agents about the timing and the possible significance of his contacts in 2016 relating to U.S.-Russia relations and the Donald Trump presidential campaign. He paid a fine, went to jail for 14 days as part of a generous plea deal offered to keep him on the line as the investigation into Russian interference continued.
Now Papadopoulos is acting upset about having to plead guilty, he’s replacing his legal team, and he’s trying to raise money for his legal expenses, because apparently the money he uses to live more lavishly than 99.999% of the US population won’t cover it. How do I know how lavishly he lives? Because he has a very active social network presence alongside his wife. This GoFundMe page was started 4 months ago to raise $250,000. He’s unarguably spent that much on leisure in that same amount of time.
You may be asking, “WHY IS THIS FUNNY?! THAT GUY IS A MONSTER TRYING TO CREATE UNDESERVED SYMPATHY!” Which is all totally true. But the reason this is funny, is because he’s raised, as of this writing, less than 6% of his desired goal. This is in 4 months. But the real humor comes in the comments section on his GoFundMe page. As it turns out, you don’t need to donate to post a comment, and the comment section is almost exclusively vitriol. If you want a good laugh, read some of them. As it turns out, people don’t have a lot of sympathy for the guy. Or, if you’re in a bad enough mood, go to the site, and leave a comment of your own. Remind him that he’s a sucky human being. Because if his Instagram account is anything to go by, he needs the reminder.
